How 'carpy' are you?
Take the Mark Pitchers "carpy test" to find out...

Are you as carpy as Mr Carpy himself Mark Pitchers? Take our quick quiz to find out. If you get 6 out of 6 you are just as carpy as Mark...

1) It’s the night before your first session on a new water so you set about tying up a few rigs ready for an early start in the morning, what will you choose…

A Ronnie Rig seems popular at the moment; I’ll use that?
Standard bottom bait rigs, nothing too complicated?
Hinged Stiff Rigs, all set and ready to go, baited with corkball foodbait pop-ups?

2) You’ve just bagged the biggest carp in the lake on your very first session which you caught by pub-chucking to an island you ‘liked the look of’ in the swim closest to the car park 10 minutes after you arrived. Do you…

Phone your mates with the news and tell them you can’t believe how jammy you were?
Keep the capture a secret but then bring it up years later casually in conversation?
Broadcast the news immediately on social media, telling everyone that you actually watched the carp’s patrol routes for two days prior to “setting your trap”, while all the time being perched at the top of the tallest tree, and you never came down once, and only survived by eating berries and leaves and drinking your own urine?

3) Naturally you need to get some carpy shots of this momentous occasion, do you…

Ring your mates asking them to come down, oh and to bring their wives, kids, pets and distant relatives along too, the more random strangers in the photo the better?!
Don a heavy chunky knit jumper (even though it’s 70-degrees), step into your chest waders (even though they had no involvement with the capture in anyway) and put on a bucket hat?
Do self-takes; the fewer people that know the better… for now anyway?

4) With its bongy eyes, saggy belly and wrinkly toad-like skin, it’s fair to say the carp isn’t going to win any beauty contests, but what words would you feel were best suited to describe such a creature?

A banger
Gnarly
A character

5) The photos have been done and you’ve slipped the fish back, but what do you do next?

Stay put and carry on angling, you could be on for the session of a lifetime?!
It’s job done! Time to pack up, go home and spend some quality time with the family, oh, and get a Lucky Dip for the lottery too?
Pack up and go to another venue to try and bag your next “target fish”?

6) Since that epic capture, results just haven’t been going your way and people are beginning to think that it may have been a bit of a fluke. What do you do to silence your critics?

Go on a road trip, abroad, with a mate, catch a few lumps and prove to everyone you’ve still got it?
Keep plugging away, you must be due more luck sooner or later?
Have a break from carping and fish for other species that are much easier to catch?
