Super stable and Rock Steady

They were the first to bring us memory foam mattresses. Then they brought us full width mattresses. And now they’ve reinvented the adjustment leg system to give us unrivalled stability. God bless Avid Carp

Continuing its mission to elevate the humble bedchair to bedroom comfort status, Avid have now come up with a completely new way to get you laying perfectly level and totally rock steady. The Rock Steady Concept is the latest in an impressive line of new and groundbreaking features on to bankside beds from Avid. Last year they brought us the Benchmark Beds, which not only featured their new Lumbar Region Support system, but on top of that is a one-piece memory foam mattress that is over two-inches thick! And now comes this unique new system which adds more stability than ever before to your bed.

The new Rock Steady Concept is available on all Avid beds

The big questions

So what is it exactly?
It’s a completely new adjustable leg system, where the captive inner leg doesn’t wobble like it does on all traditional systems. This new design principle removes the rocking motion that occurs with standard systems which can make the legs ‘bow’ when you put your weight on it and the result is an unstable bed.

Not only are the Benchmark Beds now exceptionally stable, but they’re unrivalled when it comes to comfort. That mattress is over two-inches thick!

How does the system differ and work then?
Unlike traditional systems where you have a plate and a spring, the Rock Steady System features a new spring mechanism which is enclosed in an outer moulding. This not only looks great and offers an extremely user-friendly mechanism for adjusting the legs, but it also improves the longevity of the spring because it’s completely concealed, keeping it free of mud and dirt which can build up over time with the old-school system. Inside this moulding, they’ve taken away the ‘rock’ of the leg by taking the round profile up inside the main metal leg frame.

The UK sourced spring is concealed inside the new outer moulding

Sounds impressive, but there seems to be a long resting on those springs?
A fair bit, yes, hence why they’ve used all UK sourced springs so they offer the optimum level of grip which makes the system really easy to use. The clever design was also put together right here in the UK by Avid’s own team of talented CAD designers. In fact, the Shropshire-based brand are that proud and that impressed with the system, they’ve got a patent pending on its unique and superb design.

The system doesn’t just offer amazing stability, it’s also incredibly user-friendly too

Ahh, another problem I’ve had with my current bedchair is the legs sometimes drop right out…
Yep, that is a common problem, but one you won’t be having with any of Avid’s beds or chairs. The Rock Steady legs feature a plastic stopper in the top of the insert leg and this helps prevent the leg from dropping out during use. The only way that insert is coming out, is if you literally force it apart – and only an idiot would do that!

RSC is also on all Avid guest chairs too

Hang on, did you say all Avid beds and chairs feature this system, not just the top end ones?
That is correct: Avid have implemented this Rock Steady Concept across all their models, so whether you’re buying one of their platinum Benchmark Bedchairs or Chair, a mid-range Terabite Bedchair, or opting for their budget model, Megabite Bedchair or Chair, you’ll get to enjoy total stability coupled with a very user-friendly adjustment mechanism.

The Benchmark Chair is full adjustable

Should I get one?
Hell, yeah. They have beds to cover all budgets (the Benchmark, £259.99; Terabite, £129.99; and Megabite, £99.99); they all feature this new system; they all Avid’s Totally Flat Profile; and they all offer unrivalled comfort for their price brackets. avidcarp.com
