Well, its nearing in my opinion, one of the best times of the year for angling. Already the nights are getting noticeably shorter and the early mornings have started to get that autumn nip in the air.

I managed a quick overnighter on Friday night; the lake was packed out, with most of the banks packed with anglers. I saw a couple of fish show along The Suicide Bank at close range, which was devoid of anglers. The swim I chose was a very small and cramped peg, which was near to a friend of mine who was already fishing; very convenient!

A couple of small PVA bags of crumbled Dynamite Red Fish boilies where meshed up, slid onto the hook and ready-to-go. One rod was flicked a couple of rod-lengths around the side of a marginal bush to my left and the other was flicked roughly 30-yds out onto a firm silt spot of about 12ft. 50 matching Red Fish baits followed each rod in a big spread to get the carp routing around. Everyone baits in very tight areas on the venue, so I like to go the opposite way. Just after dark the left-hand rods hanger pulled up and I was into a fish. After a quick scrap I had a double in the net. I didnt bother weighing it but I got a few quick snaps anyways. The rest of the night went quietly. I had to get off early the next morning because of other plans.

The next overnighter was on the Sunday night. Upon arriving at the lake there was a new and very cold easterly wind. Surprising the fish where showing right in the teeth of this, so I set-up in a swim known as The Picnic. One rod was flicked around to my left into some fairly shallow 6ft of water and the other just out in front on a hard silt spot. The night went uneventfully along with the other anglers on the lake. The temperature really dropped too and the night became bitterly cold. Me and two other mates had a good social tea though of tortilla wraps. Unfortunately one of my mates, Charlie was never taught not to play with his food LOL, picture enclosed youll see what I mean!
