This month I took one for the team. I put myself through more pain so you, our beloved reader wouldn’t have to do the same. There I was, full on man-flu (and it was a particular bad variety too…), standing outside on a freezing (and snowy) January night, trying on suit after suit, whilst having my picture taken and temperature read. You see, after your feedback from our Sleep Tight feature in last month’s magazine, we decided to prove which of the current crop of winter clothing is up to the job. We then weighed, measured and rated them accordingly – and the results can all be found on page 109.
Elsewhere in the issue we focus on other cold stuff – like how Dave Lane has been getting on whilst it has been snowing, and yes, predictable he’s had another 38lber. Tactics, methods and baits all reviled on page 64. Striking The Balance (page 34) takes a closer look at how you can balance your hookers to perfection without the need for metalware all over your end tackle, whilst in Opinion Poll (page 86) we’ve posed a paste-wrapped hookbait question at five of the biggest angling pundits.
Finally, in a blatant bid to understand exactly what happens to a carp when it’s nut-crushingly cold (i.e. sat under three-inches of ice) we’ve roped in the help of illustrator Mark Smith and fish farming pro, Ben Gratwicke to spill the beans in The Explainer on page 24. There are of course many other standout pieces this month, such as Keith Sykes’s Memories… keep them if you will (page 40), Pete Regan’s particle PVA bags (page 71) and our six-page Q&A feature with the master that is Kevin Nash (page 56), but I’ll let you discover the others for yourself (i.e. have a gander at the contents on pages 1 and 2).
Enjoy the issue.

Enjoyed two days piking with the legend that is Peter Regan. I literally didn’t stop laughing during the duration of each trip
Dan our designer always did struggle with his parallel parking…
Not something you want to see after an animal-like take and a mid-fifty common in the area! Jamie Clossick with a tale of what remained an uncaught brute. Page 26.
There’s keen and then there’s KEEN. This is clearly KEEN. Page 10.
We got an insight into how Keith Arthur runs his radio show. You do the same on page 6.
