July 07 - The weedy spots produces again!
The Weed Issue

Weed vs. silt, it’s a hot debate, but one that really shouldn’t be. You’ve only got to quickly “skim through” this month’s Rotary Letter (P79) that’s been handled by the ESP chaps to see that weed wins hands down. They class weed as “the carp’s favourite home”. And although we know many of you will be nodding in agreement, do you really know how to get the best from this green stuff?
To satisfy both camps (that’s weed and silt lovers), we’ve come up with this: The Weed Issue – which as it happens (and no, it’s not a coincidence) is just in time seeing how many lakes are now becoming weed-choked. In a bid to show you how great this stuff is we needed to offer you advice on location, spots, baits and of course, rigs. We think we’ve done just that.
We met Ben Hamilton (P58) where he showed us how to tie the ultimate weed rig. “Try this,” he said, “they won’t drop off now!” And although having the best rig in the world is great, we need to know about spots, holes in the weed and creating areas – stuff like that. Luckily we bumped into Ben Gratwicke (P66) where he told us all about feeding spots, and Steve Pagulatos shows you how to make a feeding area in the weed and make silt (there’s the silt part) more appealing. It’s amazing and it’s on page 73.
Add to that Simon Scott’s amazing stalking piece, Rob Hughes’ Underwater Diary, Simon Davey taking on our ‘Waveney Challenge’, Iain Macmillan’s ‘Return To Berkshire’ and of course all usual reading-matter like Regan, The BREAKdown, Fitty (more viewing that one) and Promotions. Enjoy the issue and enjoy the weed!
