Inside Our Month For This Issue…

Had our annual jolly to Etang du Soleil (Francecarp.com). Highlights included our mate Dave Williams battering them off Peg 4, this stunning 30lb common and pouring a bucket of water over Dan! Details next month.
Our chief sales man at the carp shows, Bidders, testing out his new night specs.
Why is it everywhere our cover star, James Turner, fishes, there are fireworks?
Roars all around the office as James Anderson concluded he’d found the perfect additive to soak plastic corn in. More scientific details on page 76.
CARPology meets the new Fox team. Left shocked after hearing they spend a six-figure sum each year on patents… Page 110
No message in the e-mail, just this attachment and one of those ‘’ faces. Clearly Dave Ellyatt’s spring campaign got off to a good start. Page 8
Hughesy dons the wetsuit again for the start of his new series starting on page 36. He appears to have stopped weeing himself for this year, though.
Fitty unimpressed with our “Grrrrr-ing” tiger impression. Great view, though. P126.
Viv Wilson said: “I found my two-year-old daughter Libby engrossed in the pictures of CARPology. She then said, “Daddy, you never catch fishes this big do you.” You can always rely on the family for a confidence booster eh, Viv?
Editing CARPology is by-and-large a pleasure. The 12hrs it takes to finalise the cover, 5a.m. starts and the weekend work can be a painful experience when everyone else is down the pond, but the smile soon returns to my face when editing such articles as Rob Hughes’ Below The Surface feature (P36). This month Rob has looked at groundbaits – namely with its uses on a Method feeder and when fired out with a Method Sling. Now I’m not really a ‘Method’ man myself, more a born-again-Nigel-Sharp-boilie-clone, but I have used it in the past and on numerous occasions it has crossed my mind to whether or not that large ball of goodness has actually made it down in one piece and broken up on impact. The verdict? I’ll not say, instead turn to page 36 to read the full account.
Equally as impressive this month is Pete Castle’s Summer Surfacing piece (P44). Actually, it was after I’d been through the piece, whilst out with Mr. Hughes, that it dawned on me how much I love surfacing fish. Whilst sitting on the banks of Pine Pool where we shot Rob features, I could see a group of ten fish just milling around under the surface, looking well up for a floater. I could now even read the situation perfectly: which line to feed, where to position my controller – all thanks to the ‘birds-eye-view’ illustration that accompanies Pete’s article.
Meanwhile, someone who doesn’t need any help is Dave Lane (P50), who’s proved his worth yet again by nabbing a 39lb+ brute just hours before his latest contribution was due on my desk. Once again it’s a fine mix of entertainment, advice and pics of big carp.
Of course there’s more high-valued, thought-provoking material to be learnt in this month’s edition, but I’ll leave it up to Dave Ellyatt (P8) to give you the issue rundown. Enjoy the issue.
