How many twenties is it really possible to catch in a year? Or, dare we say it, thirties? Is it possible to up your PB two, three, four or even five times during the course of 12 months? We all set out with a target at the beginning of the season or year, but it’s now, the back end of April, beginning of May that we can really make things happen and achieve those targets and ambitions.
The answer actually, is ridiculously obvious: you need to fish a lot – a helluva lot… and then a bit more. The more you go, the more you learn and the more you hone the little details which in turn make the big things happen. Nothing can replace bank hours; time to get into “the zone”, a time where you fine-tune everything from how you pack your rucksack to setting out your bankside home.
But while CARPology can’t make you go out every week, what we can do is get our award-winning writers to reveal their tactics and techniques so when you do you’ve got the best possible footing. Take Jason Hayward for example: he’s an outrageously successful angler who, just like you, has a mortgage to pay, a family and only gets out at the weekends, yet catches more than most. He also does it on a budget, as proven in his Baiting With Boilies… A Realistic Approach on page 32. Then there’s The Tank Tests (P88), where James Anderson tries to proves that a decent bait will out-fish a shite one – i.e. you need less, so you spend less. And our Rotarians this month are Dave Ellyatt and Jon McAllister, who both serve up some exception angling knowledge and advice on page 78.
It’s an edition packed with knowledge, advice and know-how – all designed to ensure you hit your targets.
Enjoy the issue.

Caused no end of headaches for our photographer with our ‘arty’ ideas for the unhooking mat special, Bouncy Castles. 12.43a.m. finish and we got what we were after. This isn’t it by the way. Page 109.
‘I ain’t going to struggle for words this month’ said Laney in a text message to the editor. ‘I moved an hour ago and I’ve had a 29 and 32 already!’ Full story, including three back-to-back high-twenties, all on page 54.
