I’ll be honest… we think the last Celebrity Cricket Fishing series was a purler. We fished and pitched our skills against some of the finest anglers in the land – 12 matches totalling 24 fine anglers, and you got to see it all. So when it came to putting together the new series – “The Premiership League” I was worried we scrapped the “hot” angler pot clean, and now we’d be left with… well, you now: the kind you don’t actually ever get to fish against – the real elite.
How wrong I was. We made a shopping list, did a bit of “haggling” and they all agreed to it: Lockie, Clarke, Penning, Lane, Sharp, Ellyatt, McAllister – the list goes on. The last series was great, but this year we wanted to go even further. We wanted to make it more technical, more big fish, more time – and you can discover the outcome on page 28.
And good God – there’s more great news, as this month sees Jason Hayward make his debut appearance in CARPology (P53). Jason, the first man to catch the now famous Black Mirror, talks about ‘logic thinking’ – which leads onto next month where he’ll reveal a major, major edge to you all. It’s comparable to the Hair rig or Dynamite Stick…
As I’ve public announced before, the last time I was troubled by bait was when Hearn was probably in his early twenties. If it smelt good, looked right and caught, that would do. My thoughts have changed somewhat over the last few years to be fair, but with the return of Simon Scott’s Tank Tests (P84) this month and our pie charts and table-of-results, it has just re-illustrated that there is a massive different in bait quality from one company to the next, so cheers, Scotty. Your findings have been most helpful.
Once again, we’ve packed this issue full of the latest news, tactics, techniques, stories, funnies and of course, our monthly fitty (P127). Enjoy this issue, but don’t forget to sign up to our CARPology Friday Newsletter; it’s a super-useful, mini CARPology that’s send direct to your e-mail account every other Friday.
