How bait spreads out underwater
Our diving man Rob Hughes investigates how bait behaves under water and has scientific-proof too
Boilies
“If they’re round they will drop pretty tight. They’re heavy so they fall quite quickly and the spread in about 6ft of water will be about a foot to a foot-and-a-half tightly grouped.”
Pellets
“Bigger pellets will fall more tightly grouped than smaller, lighter ones but in 6ft of water they will spread out by about 2ft with the heavier ones in the middle and the lighter ones round the edge.”
Parti-blend
“Parti-blend, especially with hemp, is pretty good as being pre-soaked it’s actually quite heavy so it groups up well. Add some pellets/broken boilies and it spreads to a 12-18-inches in 6ft and is probably the best bait to create a carpet feed situation.”
Munga
“Most of it will never a make it to the bottom as it dissolves in the water. Hemp spreads very lightly across about 2ft, the corn and boilies fall almost straight but one spod is virtually nothing on the bottom.”
