Shimano TX Ultras! A League Of Its Own!

Shimano’s flagship casting tool outshines outcasts the rest

Image

Shimano have always been one of the biggest names in fishing across the world, largely thanks to the reputation of their reels. However, the current TX range—which has rods for all budgets—has once again brought Shimano’s carbon prowess back to the fore. And, in the TX Ultra, they have created a rod every bit as iconic and as high in quality as products like the Technium MgS reels.

That’s the level of class we are dealing with here—absolutely nothing has been scrimped on. These rods have Spiral X technology to stop the blank from twisting and ‘ovalising’ under load, providing much better power application and a crisp action. You also get Hi-Power X, which is Shimano’s process of wrapping carbon tape to the outside of the blank to further improve strength and rigidity, meaning the top section in particular can take immense pressure without the rod feeling too stiff.

Available in either 12 or 13ft models, with test curves labelled as 3lb or 3.5lb-plus, these rods have cast a mindblowing 234yds in the hands of Shimano’s testers. These are distance weapons, but are also forgiving enough to be used in all carping scenarios without fear. The blanks are adorned with Shimano’s C14+ reel seats and stainless-steel Fuji guides, and you also get a split EVA grip for a comfortable feel and plenty of casting leverage.

The TX range is currently winning plaudits at every price point, and these are the best of the bunch; a staggering feat of engineering for the most demanding of long-range carper. Looking for the ultimate long-range casting tool? You’ve just discovered it.
