Why you need to try Mistral's Belachan Shrimp

Craig Leyland explains why you should try Mistral Baits Belachan Shrimp

I'd been using Mistral's FM range of boilies for some years and had some considerable success on it. When Mistral boss, Allan Parbery, told me they were improving it, the old adage of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' sprang to mind. Any apprehensions I may have had were soon dispelled, with 12 fish in two sessions!

The new Belachan Shrimp is in some ways very similar to its predecessor FM, but the amazingly pungent aroma that the extra Belachan, Krill and a few other goodies give, becomes apparent as soon as you open the bag. Dark brown in colour, after an hour or so in the water, the baits fade slightly to give that all-important 'washed-out' look so many anglers today seek, whilst retaining all the flavour and goodness of the complex fishmeal base-mix. The baits are available in both 15mm and 20mm, with the usual compliment of glug and the super-buoyant pop-ups we have come to expect from Mistral.

I took the new Belachan Shrimp over to France on a recent trip, and showed them to a friend I was fishing with, and he couldn't believe they were 'shelf-life'. The 20mm baits are firm enough to withstand several of even the hardest casts, but are still soft enough to break between your fingers. It was a difficult week on account of the varying weather conditions, but between the two of us we caught 15 carp, all on Belachan Shrimp. The total number of fish caught by the other six anglers all week was 14. Perhaps adding insult to injury, the left-over bait we didn't use got packed away into the van for another day; those who were using some of the more popular freezer baits around were putting their left-overs in the bin, having spent more, and caught less! Need I say more?
