Berkley Connect Carp Lines

Berkley rewrote the ‘what-you-can-make-a-fishing-line-from’ rulebook by producing the world’s first hyper line, Nanofil, and now comes a range of four brand-new lines

This even shocked Berkley. And they’re the world’s largest line producers. The market leaders in everything that’s monofil, fluorocarbon or braid. But there’s a good reason for this astonishment: this new range of four lines – two monos, a fluorocarbon and a braid – feature all new tech, from the materials used to the manufacturing process, and the result is nothing short of sensational. Here’s what you can expect… berkley-fishing.co.uk

Connect CM70

Berkley is pitching this new mono as, “Possibly the most foolproof line money can buy” and they’re not kidding when it comes to the value side of things: a 1,000m spool will set you back a mere £12.99! Just like all the award-winning monos that have come before CM70 – Big Game, Trilene – this new dark coloured line, called Muddy Brown, further enhances Berkley’s reputation as the perfect destination should you require a durable, reliable, abrasion resistant and accurate knot strength monofilament.

Coming under the ‘Connect’ umbrella, which is part of a specific range of lines built specifically for carp fishing by Berkley’s development team, CM70 is a very manageable line with a high shock resistance, meaning it offers plenty of “feel” which is great for when feeling down leads.

There are six breaking strains available: 8, 10, 12, 15, 18 and 20lb, with diameters starting at 0.28 and topping out at 0.45mm.

Key data:
High shock resistance
Great manageability
Strong

Connect CB2000

As our talented Yank pals know, fishing with superlines is becoming more and more popular within the carp scene, simply because the benefits of braided lines is obvious.

CB2000 is what Berkley is calling their “ultimate braided main line”. It’s not only model-thin, meaning new PB casting distances are guaranteed, it’s tough too. 100% Dyneema PE Fibers are spun together to create a line which has zero-stretch, zero-water absorption and has a supreme strength-to-diameter ratio. And talking of diameter, the 25lb version measures a measly 0.16mm – and it only tops out at 0.25mm for the 45lb version which is perfect for spodding work.

Connect CB2000 is available on 900m bulk spools, in 25, 35, 45, 65, 80 and 100lb breaking strains and will retail for £89.99.

Key data
Supreme strength-to-diameter ratio
Zero-stretch
Easy casting
No water absorption
100% PE Dyneema fibres

Connect CF600

When is a fluorocarbon main line more than a fluorocarbon main line? When it’s called Connect CF600! To start with, as a main line it’s a dream to use. Unlike traditional fluoros we’ve all used, this actually casts like a dream, sinks like a brick and puts you in immediate contact with the fish.

To produce CF600, “the best fluorocarbon we’ve ever made” as Berkley told us, the US-based company have used a brand-new production development. The result of this huge investment is a fluoro that’s more flexible, near-on invisible and has an ultra-high abrasion resistance make-up. And the CF600’s skill-set doesn’t finish there. It’s also extremely heavy, meaning it’ll pin itself along the lakebed if you so wish. This fantastic new line, which Berkley claim will change the way we all think about fluorocarbons forever, is available in five breaking strains: 10lb (0.30), 12 (0.34), 15 (0.38), 18 (0.40) and 20lb (0.45mm) and is sold on 1,200m spools and will retail for £49.99.

Key data
100% PVDF fluorocarbon
Extremely heavy for getting the line pinned to the bottom
Supreme abrasion resistance
Ultra-flexible and manageable
Near invisibility

Connect CM90

Extra strong. Check. Super abrasion. Check. Super dense. Double check! For the premium monofilament within the Connect collection, CM90, Berkley’s weedy green line, they’ve used pro-grade alloy monofilament polymers. Because of this, they’ve managed to build an even denser line that sinks better and settles quicker than all other monos. It’s also fantastic as a casting line, super abrasion resistant, mega strong and totally manageable – all properties which combined give you one outstanding mono.

CM90 is also available in the same breaking strains and diameters as CM70 – 8, 10, 12, 15, 18 and 20lb and a 1,200m spool will set you back just £19.99.

Key data
High abrasion resistance
Higher sink rate
Super-strong, great casting properties
Great manageability
