Less daylight, more torch light

Light 30 candles for Petzl, as the lighting company celebrates hitting a birthday landmark with a completely new collection of head torches

It’s been 30-years since Petzl first started illuminating the banks with battery power, and for this new collection the heritage-rich company has drawn upon all of that experience to produce an impressive and innovative range of new, practical headlamp solutions.

Tikkina 80, £20.00

What it may lack in power in comparison to its siblings (80 lumens), the Tikkina makes up elsewhere. It’s light, compact, cheap and comes with two lighting modes: an ambient 20 lumen brightness that favours battery life and a max brightness of 80 lumens. Available in Black, Green or Blue headbands.

Tikka 100, £35.00

Similar to the Tikkina 80, the 100 also based around compact simplicity. A phosphorescent reflector allows the head torch to be located quickly in the dark, whilst the two lighting modes either provide prolonged battery life or 100 lumens of brightness with a range of up to 55m. Available in Black or Brown.

Tikka+ 160, £45.00

Weighing in at a mere 85g, the Tikka+ 160 offers exceptional power and performance. It features a 10-second ‘boost mode’, an adjustable beam pattern (wide or focused, which is particularly handy for recasting at night), along with a red light option to help preserve your night vision. Available in Black, Green and Blue.

Tactikka+ 160, £45.00

Same performance, same power, same features and same price tag. Where the Tactikka+ 160 differs to the Tikka+ 160 is the headband. It too is washable and can be easily adjusted for comfort, but this model comes with the following colour options (which are way more “carpy”: Camo, Desert and Black.

Tikka XP 180, £50.00

The most powerful and feature-packed model on test here. Constant Lighting equals brightness which doesn’t decrease gradually as the batteries are drained. There are two beam patterns (wide and focused). A boost mode for temporary access to maximum brightness. And thanks to those 180 lumens, it’s bright. Really bright.
