SONIK S6 Carp Rod
SONIK’s latest carbon candy bars do more than just please the eye: they’re packed with the brand’s high-end Gravity X tech but come with a more mass-market price tag

Just like a great book, the rod building chapters at SONIK Sports just keep getting better and better. Rods such as the high performance Gravity X evolving from the brand who also gave us the super reliable (and divorce-avoiding) SKS range. And the latest character to join the SONIK success story is called: The S6 Carp Rod…

A black SONIK 18mm DPS reel seat and a 50mm butt ring and double-leg SIC guides are used throughout the range

The big questions

I’ve seen both of those rod ranges before – they look nice – but what’s so special about these new S… S…?
Six, S6 – and loads! Although the first thing that’ll probably strike you when you initially pick one up, is how light and balanced they feel. SONIK have used a high modulus, 40 ton Japanese Toray carbon fibre enabling them to create a super-slim blank that not only looks adorably sexy with a matt black finish, but also performs well too. Quick and speedy to pull through during the cast with a crisp action which is capable of dispatching your presentation accurately at a very long-range.

I like the sound of the matt black look!
Yep, these rods really do look the nuts, especially as the look is so well complemented by all the other fittings. The butt is finished off nicely with a black, laser-etched butt cap, along with a SONIK 18mm DPS reel seat, again in black to continue the subtle styling further up the rod. And it’s completed with neatly fitted black collars. An understated ‘black on black’ gloss logo sees the carp rod chic resume moving up to a 50mm butt ring and double-leg SIC guides that line the rod.

You mentioned the crisp casting action – so is this rod just for long-range or could I use it on my little club water?
Well, the powerful butt of the rod is perfectly balanced with a sensitive top section, meaning these rods are just as suited to fishing under the tips as they are at medium- to long-range. The 12’ S6 is also available in three different test curves: 3, 3.25 and 3.5lb to provide a choice of slightly more softness or power dependent upon the type of venues you fish and personal preference.

Anything else I should know?
Oh yes, we’ve still not mentioned one very big feature option with the S6, in that each test curve rod is available in two different versions. One finished with a slim Japanese shrink wrap handle, plus a second AAA grade cork handle build. So two uber-cool looks to choose from.

That sounds good, but all these features are starting to sound expensive too?
Yeah, we get where you’re coming from, but you’ll be pleased to hear that SONIK have introduced the S6 at the middle area of their rod range, so basically drawing upon high spec features similar to those of the Gravity X, coupled with the reliable, affordable aspects of the SKS. Distill these two together and it’s no surprise that the price of every version of the S6 is a very competitive £199.99.
