The Palomar Knot

Having trouble tying strong knots? We explain how to tie one of the best - the Palomar Knot...

The Palomar is a very simple yet extremely effective knot. It’s extremely secure, giving no slippage if bedded down correctly. This is one that many anglers favour and put confidence in for attaching their hooks, swivels and leaders.

1 Double over your line and pass it through the swivel as shown.

2 Now create a simple Overhand Knot but don’t bed the knot down!

3 Pass the swivel through the large loop at the end of the line.

4 And this is how your knot should look at the moment. Almost there…

5 Moisten the knot and very gently pull it down towards the swivel.

6 Finally, you need to trim off the tag end leaving a tiny amount of excess.
