Alarmingly Good K9 Alarms

Upgraded innards make New Direction’s K9s a formidable proposition. Here are all the facts on the 2022 spec update…

New Direction Tackle’s range-topping bite alarm, the K9, has been given a technical overhaul to become the even more impressive K9s. The existing K9 was already a feature-packed alarm in line with ND’s futuristic ethos, but the revised ‘S’ model improves on a number of existing features.

Firstly, there are new batteries. The originals took half-AA-size ER14250M cells, which weren’t too easy to get hold of. That’s now been remedied by the use of a pair of CR2 batteries, which are much more common. However, the ND rechargeable power packs also still work in these updated alarms. The new dual-CR2 powerplant has also improved battery life, giving 500hrs of usage in standby mode.

These alarms can be purchased as standalone heads, but most customers are likely to purchase the two, three or four-rod kits with the R9s mini receiver—and another benefit of this refreshed line up is improved range between the alarms and that remote sounder box. And remember, that receiver remains one of the cleverest on the market with a live LCD readout telling you in which direction your line is moving and precisely how much of it is being taken or allowed to fall slack. You can also remotely control the function of each alarm head from the receiver, including altering the volume, tone, sensitivity and night light.

Speaking of the night light, another upgrade is the ability to change the colour of the halo light on the front of the alarm heads to customise your set-up. That circular LED ring around the speaker which offers a permanent glowing function can be set to blue, red, yellow, white or green.

An improved presentation case has also been included in the sets of multiple alarms, while the K9s remains one of the most ‘connectable’ buzzers on the market. It can be paired with a host of existing New Direction Tackle products including the company’s own bivvy light, H9 Pro Head Torch, Smart Band Vibrating Wristband and the TH9s motion-sensing anti-theft system.

Existing features of these alarms include removable light-up snag ears, a 30-second mute mode, snap-on protective buzzer cases and a mobile app that allows you to tinker with all the functions you could possibly need from the comfort of your phone!
