CARPology Reviews

Exceedingly Good Liquids

Of all the things on CARPology’s 'must-have' list, along with rigs like Terry Hearn's, getting the best liquid out there is probably the most important, especially as we’re heading into the hardest time of the year. Thankfully Nashbait has a line-up of exceptionally good natural ones...

A versatile liquid attractant is the most indispensable of bait tools. Your boilies? Glugged. That groundbait? Mixed. Your spod mix? Slicking! Nashbait’s latest release features four unique liquids, all of which can be used for the above and more, and all are exclusive to the Essex-based bait brand and offer the finest in natural attraction. Personal favourite? Wormcell, of course, it’s a winter must-have. But before you shoot off, here’s what each one has to offer…

1. Wormcell
If you read Darrell Peck’s bait Q&A in issue 217, you’ll already be very aware “a very thin, watery bait soak which has the same pulling power as the liquid from freshly chopped worm, but at a fraction of the cost” was on his wishlist for a future bait product. It would appear Nashbait has released the product that Darrell “would love to soak his boilies in” in the form of Wormcell.

100% natural hydrolysed earthworm concentrate (can you imagine what that looks like when they turn the blender on!), it’s rich in free amino acids and natural feeding triggers. But Nashbait hasn’t finished it there. They’ve taken those key attractors found in worms and then concentrated them thousands of times to give you the most natural feeding trigger of all. Seriously, it’s sensational.

Using Sticks this winter? Pour some of this into your mix. Making some special coldwater pop-ups? Include it in the recipe. If you’ve previously introduced scalded pellets in the winter, then switch the water for this stuff. Oh, and when summer rolls around again, try soaking your floaters in it! £12.99

2. Salted Squid
The good people at Nashbait have been rooting around in the archives and have dug out a gem. It’s a blend of the same fresh Atlantic squid used in their Scopex Squid Hemp, which means it’s packed with salts, free amino acids, trace elements and minerals. If you’re looking for a potent additive with any number of applications, well, look no further: Stick mix additive, in groundbaits, over pellets, particle and boilies, with no limit to its inclusion thanks
to its totally natural make-up. £12.99

3. Mussel Blend
Nashbait is known as a brand which likes to buck the trend (think big bedchairs when everyone else was going small and light, and shrinking rods to 6ft), so it’s no surprise that they’ve come up with this concoction which combines three whole mussel species, including Green Lipped Mussel. It’s also worth noting that it’s Alan Blair’s favourite from the Natural Booster collection, adding it to his grubbing mixes and cobweb bag fillings. “Carp in a bottle!” he told us.

4. Brine Shrimp & Gammarus
This combination might not be the first name on many angler’s lips but in the aquaculture world, this fresh and saltwater duo is a big deal. Developed by Max Hendry and based on the heavy use of shrimp feeds to promote feeding and fash growth, it contains a suspension of three species of aquatic shrimp. The usage list is as long as an old copy of the Yellow Pages but some suggestions include: a clouding additive for spod and grubbing mixes to pouring over floaters and soaking your chosen boiled food in. It’s also ideal for ‘granite’ waters where explosions of natural food can make it difficult to interest carp in artificial baits for lengthy periods. £12.99

A WORMCELL MEGA MIX

1. Start by adding some pellets to a tub.
2. Pour a generous amount of liquid over.
3. Add some boilie crumb to the mix.
4. Next to go in are a handful of lobworms.
5. Using scissors, chop the worms.
6. That is one seriously good winter mix!
