Fishing Family Aiming For £10k On Their 10th Year

Cast-4-life was born in 2012 as a fun way to raise funds for Cancer research UK whilst doing something Ian loves and this year will be their 10th anniversary.

Ian Palmer and his youngest son Nathan are both keen carp anglers and his wife Vicki does not mind going along every now and then. Their oldest son Callum however is more of an indoors youth. It is this love of fishing and the need to do something to help fight cancer, that Ian created Cast-4-life. Cast-4-life was born in 2012 as a fun way to raise funds for Cancer research UK whilst doing something Ian loves and this year will be their 10th anniversary. Their target this year to hit £10k.

Ian & Vicki’s families have both had more than their share of Cancer related illness and death with Ian himself being a 2-time survivor, and it is because of one of these deaths that Cast-4-life was born, 2012 was when Ian’s sister Debbie Wilson lost her second battle with breast cancer. Ian was away fishing when Debbie told him the news that she was terminal, and it was then he started to come up with the idea of cast-4-life. Once the idea was formed the hope was she would be at the match but unfortunately passed before it took place.

It is a 48hr Carp fishing match in which the anglers taking part get sponsorship for, there are trophies for the biggest & smallest fish as well as for the overall match winning pair with the highest combined weight. Originally in 2012 it was just Ian, his brothers Steve & Tony Grant and three friends fishing it but in 10 years it has grown into what can only be described as an extended family with many of the same anglers fishing every match and this year will be the biggest to date with 38 anglers taking part.

During the match, the anglers have a 4hr social time on the Saturday and this is when the raffle and auction takes place. This year there will also be three prize draws with the main prize draw being a trip for 2 anglers to fish the Ebro River in Spain for 5 nights, courtesy of On the Ebro. The match kicks off on Friday 7th October until Sunday 9th October and is being held at Willow Park Fishery, Ash, Aldershot, GU12 6RE. Prize draws, raffle, and auction to take place on Saturday 8th October from 12pm, and match winners presentation taking place on Sunday 9th October from 1pm.
