Mats Of The Day

Avid’s launched two new unhooking mats, one of which is exceptionally unique…

If there’s one thing Avid have got right since day one, it’s unhooking mats. From their hugely popular cradles to more traditional fold-up mats, the team from Telford have always nailed it. That trend looks to have continued with their two latest releases: the Revive and the Folda Cradle.

The former is a unique-looking mat with built-up end section and lower mesh sides encircling a well-padded base. The whole mat is self-contained within the outer shell, meaning it has a unique packdown ability. The two sturdy end pieces, with an external pocket for scales and fish-care essentials, offer more protection than a conventional flat mat, but the overall design still lends itself to mobile angling.

At first glance, the Folda Cradles look like more traditional walled designs, but Avid say they’re one of a kind and can be set-up and packed away in seconds thanks to a unique clip arrangement. There’s thick padding on the base and all four walls, plus for carry handles for easy manoeuvring.

A super-durable and fast-drying waterproof material has been used throughout and there are D loops on each end to secure the cradle on any terrain. Avid call the Folda “the ultimate in speed, protection and mobility” and it looks like they’ve ticked all of those boxes.
