OMG It's Thinking Anglers' OGX

Thinking Anglers’ new main line is tough and ready

Image

Thinking Anglers have long been synonymous with clever and crafty terminal-tackle items, plus some cult luggage, but now they’ve expanded into the world of main lines with their first monofilament. Here’s all the deets you need to know…

1. The science
This is a copolymer main line which means it’s denser (heavier) than traditional monofilaments, so it sinks well. The slight trade-off will be an added degree of wiriness, marginally affecting casting performance, but you’ll also get a bit less stretch which is advantageous for feeling the lead down.

2. Toughness
The ability to cope with repeated abuse seems to be the key selling point of this new OGX line. Excellent abrasion resistance and high knot strength are offered throughout the range.

3. Breaking strains
There are four diameters and strengths on offer: 12lb (0.33mm), 15lb, (0.35mm), 18lb (0.37mm) and 20lb (0.40mm). We strongly suspect each one is under-rated and you can confidently expect to get the stated breaking strain at your knots.

4. Brains behind it
Thinking Anglers’ roster of quality field-testers includes co-founder Ben Hamilton, former record holder Oz Holness, Myles Gibson, Si Bater and many more. Crucially, it also includes Lewis Read, who for many years helped forge Gardner’s sterling reputation for main lines (thank him for the likes of HydroTuff and GT-HD). He’s brought that expertise across to TA and the OGX has his fingerprints all over it.

5. The spools
Supplied in a tin (which helps stop sunlight degradation), each spool of OGX is 1,000m and has removable line markers at 660m and 330m to aid filling three reels evenly. £21.99
