RidgeMonkey RM-Tec Hooklinks

Not content with winning a place in your carryall, RidgeMonkey is looking to get into your tackle box too now!

We’d been hearing the rumours for a while: Ridgemonkey was planning an all-out assault on the terminal tackle market. It’s alway a big risk when a popular brand moves out of their niche and into another, but with some serious carp fishing knowhow behind them, success was assured, wasn’t it? Well, we’ve got the new hooklink materials to test, and they’re pretty bloomin’ decent! It’s a comprehensive range too, with five different materials, and a braided shockleader thrown in for good measure. Here’s what you need to know…

RM-Tec Soft Coated Hooklink

The all-rounder of the range, and a link that we’re sure will be a huge seller. The low-viz, soft plastic coating is easy to strip and supple enough to lie over the top of bottom debris without alerting feeding carp to the presence of the rig. It’s available in Weed Green, Organic Brown and Camo in 25lb and 35lb breaking strains. £13.99

RM-Tec Stiff Coated Hooklink

Like your hookbait to kick away from the lead for best presentation? Us too, especially over a rock-hard deck, which is where this stuff really shines. It’s a proper stiff material when unstripped, and the braided core is easily supple enough to help you create a host of presentations. RidgeMonkey has clearly worked hard to make the coating low-vis and it’s available in Weed Green, Organic Brown and Camo in 25lb and 35lb breaking strains. £13.99

RM-Tec Fluorocarbon

Incredibly heavy and almost impossible to spot against the lakebed, the RM-Tec Fluorocarbon hooklink material is set to be perfect for a host of rig-making applications. We reckon that it’d also make a wicked leader material when stealth is of utmost importance. Try it as a boom section for your hinges, or the all-conquering IQ D and Clone Rig presentations. It’s great value for money too! £8.99

RM-Tec Chod/Stiff Rig

The classic, high-memory mono with a couple of added twists. Thanks to the RidgeMonkey Easi-Curve tech, you can curve this material easily, cracking that all-important sweeping Chod curve. Messed it up? No need to steam it straight either, just a firm pull will suffice, and you can start again. Rather than simply make a clear mono, the lads decided to give theirs subtle weed tint too, for added subtlety. Available in 20lb and 25lb breaking strains. £6.49

RM-Tec Soft Braid Hooklink

Not the most popular of materials, since the emergence of coated braids, but one that is devastating when applied correctly. It’s absolutely essential for solid-bag fishing, and this version is super-supple and well camouflaged. The development teams has made it available in Weed Green, Organic brown and Camo versions, to match all lakebed conditions. £9.99

RM-Tec Braided Shockleader

A brutally strong, zero-stretch shockleader material that will help you add yards, and stay safe, when going for extra distance. The zero-stretch element allows you to compress your rods much quicker, giving you those vital extra yards. RidgeMonkey has given this stuff a low-vis, camo finish, and it’ll settle flush with the lakebed, staying out of the way of any carp moving through short of your baited area. It’s available in 50lb breaking strain. £10.99
