Nash Scope Black Ops Rod

The latest Scope rod is the most feature-packed version yet

When it comes to shorter rods, Nash set the agenda and continue to lead the field. Initially dismissed by some as a gimmick, the Scope sub-brand has become a staple of the modern carp scene less than a decade after its launch. The latest model, the Scope Black Ops, distills all that knowledge and experience into what the company say is their best Scope yet.

The Big Questions

The Scope phenomenon has passed me by. What’s the deal?
Where’ve you been? Well, these are two-piece rods with a retractable butt section, so they pack down really short. They come in 9ft and 10ft versions, plus two Sawn Off models at just 6ft.

And what makes these ones so special?
They’re said to be the most premium Scope ever and they do look lovely with 1k carbon weave and Alps ARD reel seats. The bottom of the handle is also wrapped in Para Cord for a unique and really interesting look.

What about performance?
Sometimes wrongly categorised as ‘stalking rods’, the Scope Black Ops are ideal for all but the most extreme of ranges. These rods, made from a blend of 24 and 30-tonne carbons, boast high-stand-off Minima guides and an Anti-Frap Tournament Tip Ring to aid casting.

Tell me more about those Minima guides…
We suspected they’d catch your eye and you’d want more details! Like the rest of the rod’s cosmetics, these are black and super light which doesn’t just enhance casting distance, but blank sensitivity and transmission.

Are they just for small fish?
Absolutely not. These are proper carp rods, just shorter for agility and ease of transport. The Sawn Offs are available in 2lb and 3lb test curves, while the nine-footers offer a standard 3lb test curve or a stepped-up S model with a 3.5lb rating.

Go on then… how do the ones and zeros read?
Don’t go thinking they’re going to be a chunk cheaper just because they’re 2 and 3ft shorter than your average fishing rod. These are top-end rods, built to the highest spec… In fact they feature more rod tech than your average two-piece model thanks to that retracting butt section. So with that said, you shouldn’t gasp when we tell you prices start at £299.99 and topping out at £349.99. Yes, that’s a lot of money in any language, but these truly do represent outstanding quality.
