Fake News!

ESP have got plastic boilies spot-on (think: muted colours, uber-buoyant, Hair-stop recess)

It’s easy to forget that as well as producing hooks, rig materials and larger items like rods and nets, ESP also do a great line in artificial baits. Their buoyant corn is some of the best around, while parent company Drennan make brilliant fake casters and maggots. With such plastic pedigree it’s little wonder these new offerings are so good.

Why do I need fake boilies?
Ask any angler who fishes a crayfish-infested water and they’ll tell you of their importance! These tough little spheres are impervious to crayfish claws and will also stand you in good stead on venues where birds and smaller fish are a problem.

Okay, but aren’t they normally much brighter?
ESP have deliberately gone down a more muted route to help match these hookbaits with your free offerings. The colours are ‘Red Fishmeal’, ‘Brown Fishmeal’, ‘Nut Mix’ and ‘Washed-Out Pink’, and all can be soaked in flavours.

Do I have to buy packs of each?
No, the two fishmeal colours are sold in combined packs, as are the nut mix and pink options. There are 16 baits (eight of each colour) in a pack and you get two of the following sizes—12, 13, 14 and 15mm.

Are they buoyant?
Very! ESP say they’ve made them as buoyant as they can possibly get them. If you need even more buoyancy you can heat up a 6mm nut drill and use it to core-out part of the bait and stuff the hole with 6mm cork.

Clever idea, that! Are they easy to attach?
Like ESP’s Fake Corn, there’s a Hair-stop recess in the top of the boilies for a flush fit, but they’ll also happily sit securely on a metal bait screw. £3.95
