Okuma Inception Reel

There’s something stylishly eye-catching about the latest reel from the Okuma stable. Compact and understated, the Inception is also very keenly priced...

With classic big-pit design elements, the Okuma Inception looks the part. From the wooden handle knob to the compact, narrow body and large spool marshalled by a chunky bail arm, this thing definitely makes a statement.

Drawing on Okuma’s experience across all sectors of the international reel market, the Inception is also built to last - and built to cast. The machine-cut aluminium spool holds up to 370m of 0.30mm line and the oversized gearing produces a very impressive cranking power of 104cm per handle turn.

The body is made from corrosion-resistant graphite and the three internal ball bearings work with a machine-cut brass pinion gearing to provide the Inception with plenty of durability. The rotor system is computer balanced to reduce wobble on the retrieve and the long-30mm long-stroke spool aids casting potential. The worm-shaft oscillation system is smooth and slow for crisp, even line lay.

The heavy-duty bail arm, which boasts an Even Flow ball-bearing line roller to reduce twist, is made from aluminium to save weight, while other details include a round metal line clip and an all-metal handle. In all, these reels weigh just 466 grams.

Available as a 6000-size reel, the Inception is in classic big-pit territory, but its attractive recommended retail price of under £65 helps push it to the front of the pack in a crowded field.
